Every year we look forward to meeting all our new Year 7 students. If you would like to apply for a place in Year 7, please visit our online tour.
Each Year 6 student will have worked exceptionally hard to gain a place here and we make every effort to ensure that the transition from primary to secondary school goes smoothly, with the minimum of stress. We care about our students enormously, both in terms of their academic achievement and their emotional wellbeing.
During Terms 5 and 6 of the academic year, our Pastoral Support team visit local primary schools, usually accompanied by a senior member of staff, to get to know the new intake of Fort Pitt students. Staff will use this opportunity to talk about how our school day works and set out the school’s expectations. We will also outline the school’s uniform policy. We hope this will give our prospective students the opportunity to discuss any fears or uncertainties they may have about the move to secondary school. Students will also be invited to the Year 6 taster day. During the taster day, we let you know about the house you will join at the start of Year 7. The taster day is also a good time to start getting to grips with the layout of the school, as you make your way around to attend sample lessons.
Parents will be invited to attend a meeting prior to taster day, providing them with the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about their daughter’s new school. This day promises to be fun and exciting, a chance to attend lessons and make new friends. Students really enjoy this first day at secondary school; it is the start of a happy and exciting time in their lives, as they take their first steps as members of the Fort Pitt community.
