Students study a range of texts in the Tragedy genre where they sit two examinations at the end of the year to receive an AS level in English Literature. Students will study Shakespeare’s play Othello, Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman, John Keats poetry, Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel The Remains of the Day and a range of extracts and texts in the Tragedy genre.
Students are encouraged to study independently and read around the subject so that they gain a joy of reading and increase their understanding of the genre. English Literature at A-Level is a very popular subject at Fort Pitt Grammar school and students require a B grade or above in English Literature and Language at GCSE to study it.
If students continue to study English Literature in Year 13 then they will then be studying for an A-Level and their AS Level will no longer be valid.
