Business and Communication Systems
Business and Communication Systems is taught in years 10 and 11. Students follow the AQA GCSE BCS course. Both teachers have their specialisms for this course particularly for the ICT skills elements and the HoD supports his colleagues with the Business element along with a Business Studies trained teacher. The department is on a journey to move to Computer Science across all key stages by raising the profile of the subject at all Key Stages.
The Department offers a number of enrichment activities to enhance pupils’ achievement and enjoyment of the subject. We also have Student Academic Mentors, who are high achieving students form the previous year 11 group, who provide one to one support.
Teachers also offer classes to support at lunchtimes and after school to help pupils with different assessments or general subject advice.
The department organises a number of trips throughout the year offering students the opportunity to understand how ICT is used and impacts upon the real world. Trips going out this year include Disneyland Paris for A Level students and the National Museum of Computing. Trips planned include Thorpe Park for year 10.
