Art & Design
Students in KS3 have one hour of art per week. Each year two to three practical projects are undertaken, and students gain experience using a wide range of media and working methods.
Drawing is an important component of everything we do and we start at the beginning of Y7 with a series of lessons building the girls’ confidence in the basic skills of mark-making and recording from observation. Craft work and 3d model-making also takes place with an annual visit to the British Museum, which forms the basis of a project focusing on an another time or culture.
In Year 8, students build on skills introduced in Year 7, learn the fundamentals of Perspective and gain an introduction to Graphic Design and printmaking. In addition, they learn the basics of digitally created Art & Design using Photoshop.
Projects are assessed regularly under the following headings:
- Developing Ideas and Critical Understanding
- Experimenting and Refining
- Recording and Observing
- Making Connections with Others’ Work
